Local groups are partnering to support local farmers and the Farmer’s Market with a farm to table event. “Farms, Food and Footlights” will take place in the Garden at the Joy on Saturday, October 8th at 5PM. The City of Kings Mountain and the Cleveland County Foothills Farmer’s Market are joining together to produce a dinner using locally sourced foods prepared by 238 Cherokee Grill.
The evening will include the play, “39 Steps”, directed by Wendy Walega. This comedy is a combination of Alfred Hitchcock and Monty Python. “We’re excited about this addition to the annual Gateway Festival. Of course, our farmer’s market is part of the economic puzzle we consistently work on to better develop and improve our downtown as a draw for residents and visitors alike”, said Mayor Scott Neisler. Jan Harris, Main street Director and Haley Wilson, Special Events coordinator for the City are involved in putting the event together. Tickets are $75.
The reception and dinner will be in the Garden at the Joy, adjacent to the Joy Performance Center. Leon Camaj, Executive Chef at 238 Cherokee Grill. “We look forward to outdoing the last farm to table event and we’re working on developing some memorable courses while working with local farmers on ingredients,” said Camaj. This years’ market manager, Nancy Fichter, will help coordinate the farmers contributions to the dinner party. “Buying locally sourced farm goods keeps money in the community and lessens the carbon footprint of long distance food shipments,” said Fichter.
Board member and food writer, Cathey Noell, added, “Every community needs a farmer’s market. It’s better for our local farmers, the environment and downtown. It’s part of the quality of life here in Kings Mountain.”
Tickets are currently available at City Hall in Kings Mountain and the extension in Shelby
