Carolyn’s book, Suffer and Grow Strong: The Life of Ella Gertrude Clanton Thomas, 1834-1907, chronicles the life of another Georgian, Ella Gertrude Clanton Thomas. Thomas, an intelligent young woman with a love for learning, who began a diary at the age of fourteen that she kept for forty-one years. These diaries of her life before, during, and after the Civil War filled thirteen hand-written volumes with 450,000 words and detail her young life, her education at Wesleyan Female College in Macon, Georgia, her marriage, and the pre- and post-war hardships. Suffer and Grow Strong is an amazing story of survival and transformation that speaks to women in our own time. Carolyn Curry holds degrees from Agnes Scott College and Georgia State University. She has taught at the Westminster Schools in Atlanta and The University of Kentucky. She is the founder and chair of the non-profit organization, Women Alone Together. For more than 50 years, she has been married to Bill Curry, who is the former head football coach at Georgia Tech, the University of Alabama, the University of Kentucky, and Georgia State University. He was an ESPN Football Analyst for eleven years.  They have a daughter, Kristin Hunter, a son Bill Curry, Jr., and six grandchildren.
